fire!
the last time I posted about fire, it was in my building. and it was just a lot of smoke. this time it was in another building, but it was a real fire. the building almost burned down.
I drove home from the church’s Wednesday night Bible study only to find that I couldn’t get home. I had to park on a main street a good block from my complex because so many emergency vehicles and news vans and other residents’ cars were blocking the street. there’s only one way in and out, and the fire was in an apartment on that main road.
bottom caught fire and the fire spread upstairs through the floor AND the stairwell. so the people in the upstairs were trapped and had to jump from their balcony to get out (not that high, but not something fun to do). this morning, after all the drama ceased, you could see a huge ring of charred grass (and man, that grass was wet to start – it’s been raining for a week) around the bottom apartment, a huge boarded over hole in the building roof, and boarded up windows and balcony doors. an entire building was ruined.
craziness. it’s a little unnerving to think that one person’s negligence or accident can displace so many families. thankfully, no one was hurt.
in other news, today is supposedly payday. we’ll see.
