I actually had planned on keeping up with posting… I just find that I have zero time to do so.

it’s been a busy week. lots of plans every night after work, in addition to my standing commitments like symphony rehearsal and church. and my parents came this weekend! they don’t come out here very often – they have full lives in PA and it’s a long drive. when they do come, it’s quite the occasion! there’s so much for them to do, to see, and so many people that want to see/meet them.

this weekend was no exception. the main reason they came was to go dress shopping with me (I found a dress!) and to meet Dave’s folks, my soon-to-be in-laws. can’t talk about the dress – Dave reads my blog – so I’ll talk about our folks meeting each other.

it went well! I have to admit, as the day they were to meet approached I was a little nervous. what if they didn’t like each other? more realistically, what if they had NOTHING in common and it was a really awkward time? but… things went very well, I think.

we met at an Olive Garden – something nice and quiet so they could talk. our parents laughed a lot and told stories about me and Dave growing up. they told each other about their jobs, Randy (Dave’s brother) told my folks about himself, and Dave and I pretty much stayed quiet and listened. =) then we went back to the Aukermans’ house for dessert and more chatting. that’s when we started relaxing and having a good time, I think. I wasn’t around all evening – I managed to get myself sick to my stomach in a BAD way, so I ended up lying down for the last hour or so.

my parents really enjoyed themselves, and his say they did, too. I’m glad – things could have been a lot worse, a lot more awkward. I like that our parents came in with a mind to like the other set of parents because they love their kid so much. you hear all kinds of nightmare stories where the parents don’t get along, so the kids don’t get along with their in-laws… I really want us to all be friends at the least, and FAMILY at the best.

in other, more recent news, I’m sick. I was fine for most of the weekend, I thought – just a little grouchy and sore and tired. yesterday I woke up with a massively swollen throat and a cough. it feels like three-week strep! but I don’t have strep – I have my roommate’s most recent illness. it left her alone after three days, so hopefully after tomorrow I’m done with it.
