upland, here we come?
Dave might be a math professor at Taylor next year.
Matt DeLong is finally getting to go on his sabbatical, and they *asked* David to apply for the full-time fill-in position. after much discussion, we decided that it’s a great opportunity for him. there are a lot of good things about taking that position: a job that earns twice as much as he was expecting to *with* benefits for both of us… there’s not really anything bad about the situation.
the only downside is that one of us will have to drive. either David drives from Indy four times a week (three to teach in Upland and one for classes in Anderson), or we postpone our house-buying plans and live in Upland for a year, in which case I do the driving. because I don’t get health insurance and I’ll be making less than David, I think I’ll be able to talk my boss into letting me work from home, at least a couple days a week, if we live in Upland. she can’t possibly expect me to force David to stay and drive if I’m not even making as much as he is. if she does, well, Steve, how serious were you about needing a webmaster?
anyway, we’re going to start looking around at the options. I’ll chat with la jefe and see what she’s willing to do. ideally, we’d live up there, and I’d drive in on Tuesdays and Thursdays. those are days that David would also be driving to Anderson, and we could just carpool together. I’d stay home at LEAST on Wednesdays, because that night I go to symphony rehearsal and David would go to church. if I was already in the city, that would mean both of us had to drive seperately.
lots of important things to think about, and scary conversations to have. pray for us?
and… awesome news, folks. my grandfather had an angioplasty done a couple of weeks ago, and they decided he needed triple-bypass surgery. well, yesterday was the day. he made it through fine, and he’s doing well! praise God. =)
and… I’m still sick, though feeling much better today. I missed work on both Monday and Wednesday. it was nice to have the break, and I guess if I have to be sick, I’d rather be this kind of sick than have strep or something only cureable by expensive medicine (sleep and cough syrup did me well this time) or be puking. at least I wasn’t throwing up. and because I’m sick, I got out of a business meeting tonight. but… I was looking forward to this one. it’s with a client who’s a great, neat man. I always enjoy spending time with him – he’s more like a friend than a business associate, and I find that that’s rare in my work world. I’ll be sad to miss him.
instead of going to that meeting, I’ll be staying home. David is teaching tonight, so he’ll not be company. and Bethany will have James over. guess I’ll clean or practice my sax or work on the new church web design (desperately needed) or something.
