beware
Since it’s been so long since I posted, I have several things to say. =)
I had kind of a rough week. Most of the time I’m a pretty happy person, and don’t really dwell on things like being unemployed and having no certainty or control over the future… but sometimes those things overwhelm me. It was an overwhelming week, and my mom called at the low point. After a short conversation, she hung up. When she called me back, she informed me that I was coming to Hawaii to spend a week with my family. She’d already bought me a ticket!
So, I’m in LAX waiting for my next flight to take me the rest of the way to Honolulu.
Now, as to why I haven’t been posting: I’ve been working. Well, not working in the strictest sense of the word (as in getting paid for doing something), but working on something that might get me working… Last Monday, I got a call in the evening from a company to which I’d applied. This company is based in Fishers (a northern suburb of Indy) and is looking for technical writers to hire out for contract work (the current gig is writing for a downtown medical software company, pays $35-40/hour, and will last for 12 months). The company’s “Learning Project Manager” called to tell me he liked my application materials and would, if I was still interested, send me a “test case” to work on. He sent it Friday afternoon, and I spent the entire weekend and Monday working on it. I sent it in yesterday afternoon and within the hour he said he liked it and had forwarded it on to the client… we’ll see how that goes.
Saturday, I was wrestling with whether or not to do the project… I didn’t know if being out of Indiana for the next week or so would affect my chances of getting a job like this where people are wanted to begin working immediately (as in this week). It’s not fun work, and I knew it would take quite a few hours to complete.
Instead of going home and leaving me to work alone in his office, David left and came back with dinner, hot tea and candles. =) He spent the evening tooling around (instead of doing what he wanted to do – meet with some friends) just to spend time with me. He is THE best husband, and I wanted you all to know it. =)
So… I’m getting hungry. It’s 2 for me, but only 11 here. I’m going to see if I can find something to eat before I get on the next 5 hour flight (they charge you $5 for dinner and $3 for snacks on the flight, and if I’m gonna pay to eat something, it’s going to be something I like!).
Tara,
I hadn’t heard you were going to Hawaii (Dad A. forgot to tell me) but I am so happy for you. I never feel quite as centered and innately understood as when I am with my mom & sister. It always seems so long between Christmas and the end of tax season, when I can go back to Cambridge.
At the same time, I missed you a lot this evening at family dinner, and now it seems we can’t get together again till June because everyone’s schedules are crazy. Ah, so long… Well, enjoy your time with your family. It will be good for you!
Love,
Mom A.
Yo T – I got season 2 for you sitting on my desk. I’ll try to get it over to D.
Mom A – if we can’t all get together at once, we can still get together. =) Things aren’t going to be so crazy that we won’t have time for dinner or chatting with you! Especially early in the week, we don’t have set plans. What if you folks came up for dinner sometime during moving week? =)
